Tim about the Cottage

Since 2010 we have returned three times to this fabulous location and have stayed at all three of the properties at Dezie Manor. It has been great to see how Grant and Kiki have developed the properties over the years and they have done a wonderful job. It is impossible to choose between the three properties as they all offer the same luxurious standards throughout and beautiful surrounding countryside. Each property has a unique character, and we have wonderful memories of all of them.

Highlights for our family of 5 are: the cleanliness of the swimming pools; the peaceful countryside views; the shaded poolside areas with beds to lounge on; the brilliant brick BBQ areas; table tennis and gym equipment; the excellent bathrooms & showers, TVs and kitchen areas; comfortable beds and good quality towels and bedding.

Although there are three properties on this site you are completely unaware of other holidaying families as they have all been designed with absolute privacy in mind. Nothing is too much trouble for Grant and Kiki and any minor things we have needed have been dealt with swiftly. The friendliest and most professionally run place we have stayed at.

If you have very young children, then the Orangerie has large lawn areas which are perfect for them to run around safely while you BBQ. Our children were very little when we started coming here and are now teenagers and there is something for all ages.

We enjoyed walks and runs in the local area, straight from the front door and Vergt is a lovely town, just 10 mins drive away with a great Friday market and everything you need.

Cilla about the Cottage

We booked The Dezie cottage for two weeks with my husband, 3 year old son and mother and father. We had an early flight and Grant let us drop off our suitcases way before the check-in time, so we could go and explore the area. When we arrived we were just amazed how beautiful and perfect this place was. We have been all over the world, and stayed in many a 5* accommodation, plenty of which fell short of our expectations. The Cottage at Dezie exceeded our expectations.

First, let me offer some advice, on completion of the booking, Grant supplies the GPS co-ordinates, you will need them, I'm not sure that you could find Dezie without them, but that is just the first win! The place is perfectly secluded, in fact from the North the lane is unmade, so the route from the South (Vergt-Salon) is preferable, about a mile up the lane is a sign for The Cottage, you turn in to a gravel drive to the property and your holiday begins for real.

The Cottage itself has three bedrooms (two upstairs and a separate en-suite downstairs) and there is a separate converted barn with a fourth stunning en-suite bedroom. The details could describe this better, there was more accommodation than we thought and we were able to sleep completely away from the parents.

Outside is just what you need for a stay in the warm climates of Southern France in June/July. The pool temperature is lovely (c.30degrees) and there is plenty of space to sunbathe during the day and relax with a glass of Bergerac blanc in the evening. The covered area provides plenty of shade for those wishing to/required to avoid the sun, this was vital in the second week of our stay as it was often in the thirties. The hot-tub wasn't working, but really wasn't necessary for us either.

There is plenty to do in the area, though a car is essential, just take in the relaxing atmosphere and do as much (or as little) as you want!

The service provided was first class, Grant was responsive when we had minor issues and I would have no hesitation in recommending Dezie (though privately I hope it remains our secret!)

Dale about the Cottage

The cottage is beautiful, good balance between being well decorated with lovely vintage items and yet comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped too with pans big enough to cater for the 7 of us. The terrace being under cover meant we ate outside every day, even tho weather was changeable. Special mention for the ping pong table which was a very popular addition! We found the location was excellent as the local town, Vergt, was bigger than expected with 3 boulangeries and a decent size supermarket and it was also reasonable distances (about 40 mins) to visit Sarlat, Domme, La Roque etc. Grant was very attentive when we had queries and nothing was too much trouble. Only down side to the holiday was we had only booked 7 days!! We'll be back.......

Ellie about the Cottage

We have just enjoyed two wonderful weeks at The Cottage at Dezie Manor. What a wonderful place. I can highly recommend a visit to this clean and well thought out cottage. We stayed with our adult children. There was plenty of room for 7 of us in the 4 double bedrooms. Two rooms are downstairs with lovely ensuite shower rooms, one separate from the house offering extra privacy. The two rooms upstairs share a beautiful shower room with a separate toilet. Upstairs was warm- we had a 40 degree heatwave but air conditioning units are provided to keep things cooler. All the rooms are clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished. Outside, there is a beautiful pool which was heated to the perfect temperature. Comfortable sunbeds are provided, and you can also sit out of the sun under the spacious covered seating and dining area. There is a table tennis table and table football to entertain you, and the garden is spacious and full of lovely scented plants. Grant was on hand to advise on things to do locally, and we were greeted with fresh bread, local pâté and wine, which was a lovely touch. We visited Lascaux caves, enjoyed some wine tasting and spent a day canoeing at Limeuil. The local area has plenty to do and Grant was able to recommend some very nice restaurants, though you must book in the local ones. Dezie Manor is a very private and peaceful place to stay. We would love to return.

David about the Cottage

The pictures you see here do not do justice to how wonderful this place is! Myself and the family - 6 adults - spent a fantastic week here this July (2015) and could not find fault. The location is incredible, secluded enough to find peace and quiet but only 10mins drive from town and a supermarket.

The buildings are beautiful and rustic - whilst being fully kitted out for ease and comfort and Grant, the owner, could not have been more accommodating and helpful. We had rental car issues the day we arrived and Grant not only took us shopping to fill our kitchen while we were immobile - he acted as translator and spoke with the garage to help sort out the problem and then drove us in to town when the car was ready to pick up.

Wouldn't change a thing about this trip. (I even made a daft video of our stay http://bit.ly/1EjnJgE)

Dear Grant and Kiki,
★ ★ ★ ★ ★

You are right - all good things come to and end! We just have to resign ourselves for our return to a damp, grey and cold UK and that’s just our summer.

Thank you so much for making our special family holiday so perfect. I don’t think we’ve ever stayed anywhere before where the owners were so engaging and so much fun! Loved your sense of humour and the fact that nothing was too much trouble (even all the issues with the internet/wifi).

We look forward to seeing you again.

With our very best wishes,

Anne and Bruce

Lesley about the Cottage

On arrival it was definitely a “wow” factor - and the question -”is this all ours for the week”. Fabulous stay in July in the Cottage. Family holiday with six adults and two children (age ranging from 62 down to 4 months). Fantastic time had by all. We were fortunate with the weather and with the exception of first morning did not use the spacious dining room or lounge as the outside covered area was brilliant for all meals and the entire day. This provided shade for those that needed it either with the sunbeds or the two large American day beds. Could not keep our two year old grandson out of the pool which commenced within 15 minutes of arrival! It is beautifully secluded but close to quaint village for supplies. Felt like you were a million miles away from anywhere especially when absorbing the spectacular sunsets that we were fortunate enough to see. Thank you Grant for the pony ride for Cian on his last night and thank you also for your hospitality always contactable by email and attempting to get us booked into restaurants etc as well as providing other local information. Younger members of the group undertook a kayaking trip whilst all ages battled it out at Garden Karting nearby (go karting for the very competitive members of the group!)

Will have no hesitation in returning or recommending this wonderful place to others.

What a wonderful place!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I am writing this review on the last day of our stay and I am very hesitant about doing so…..This place is so great that we want to keep it to ourselves!
Immediately upon arriving (finding it was a breeze through the GPS coordinates supplied) we had a ‘wow! impression’. The place is totally secluded amidst a beautiful garden. Grant and his wife Kiki have done a magnificent job in renovating this old building. The villa is extremely comfortable with spacious rooms and best of all a large covered terrace overlooking the gardens. But at the same time it also offers the charm of its ancient history.

The surrounding area is just beautiful. The Dordogne area gets a lot of visitors but being in and around Cendrieux this is almost hard to believe. Yet there are many sights and activities in the region. Though we mostly stuck to exploring some excellent restaurants…..

Our children loved the pool and played table football for hours every day. Our youngest enjoyed the pony rides together with Kiki.

To sum it up, we loved everything about La Vieille Dezie! But maybe the best was the superb hospitality offered by Grant and Kiki. They really went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. And memorable it was. We will definitely return!

Sam about the Cottage

A blissful week at this beautiful house in July 2015 was just what the Dr ordered. The cottage was beautiful-the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in with comfy beds and all the equipment that you could wish for. We arrived after a few days exploring the region so some lazy days by the new pool and some night time tubbing were fantastic.

We then started to venture out and about a little with kayaking on the Vezere and the busy market in Le Bugue. The Police horse sanctuary in Brantome is also definitely worth a visit, especially if you love horses (if daily visits to the ones in the next door field to the cottage are not enough for a horse mad teen!!)

The weather was fabulous and the hospitality faultless. We are not people who usually holiday in the same destination twice as the world is a very big place, but La Vieille Dezie is the kind of place that may make us break that rule.

Kevin about the Cottage

The setting is idyllic and the properties superbly designed and equipped. The pool area is fantastic.

Sitting in the hot tub at midnight gazing up at a clear starscape will remain in my memory for a long time. Our ages ranged from 23 to 77 and we all had a great time.

I would heartily recommend La Vieille Dezie to all.

Karen about the Cottage

We recently spent a wonderful seven weeks at La Vieille Dezie. It was incredible to stay in buildings constructed before the French Revolution and yet equipped with all the modern conveniences of home, including a large television with a wide array of channels and movies available.

The setting is quiet and pastoral, complete with cuckoos, nightingales, horses and rabbits. And on top of all this, La Vieille Dezie is situated close to many magnificent attractions, amazing medieval villages and castles, great restaurants, and stunning prehistoric sites with 17,000 year old paintings and etchings that blow your mind.

The proprietors, Grant and Kiki, are the kind of people one would want as neighbours and friends, and their helpfulness and friendliness added immeasurably to our enjoyment. Several relatives and friends who stayed with us were likewise extremely pleased by the accommodations, the bucolic surroundings and the proprietors.

Simply said, La Vieille Dezie is a wonderful place to stay, and we recommend it highly, without reservation. Dr. James Alcock & Karen Hanley

Teresa about the Cottage

Grant, We are on the water this afternoon, motoring since there is very little wind. This is the Sandy Point Lighthouse on the northern Chesapeake Bay(usa). We miss the Cottage! Tried to find some Pecharmant wine, no luck! Very few Bergerac wines are exported.

We will just have to come back! We all truly enjoyed our stay in the Cottage. We miss the pony shows, the frolicking rabbits, especially the black one and of course, Dougie's visits. Great memories, Hi to Kiki! Terry
